Preservation of cereals: a contribution a Webinar by Maria Otilia Carvalho for EU Cost Action CA15118 FoodMC on 2017 03 09.

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) involves understanding interaction between the stored product environment, insects and fungi associated with stored products, resulting in the replacement of all or most of the chemical applications with cost-effective non-chemical alternatives (not only that). The increased emphasis on adopting IPM strategies to manage stored product insects and fungi has been brought about primarily by the development of resistance in insects to insecticides, consumer demand for food free of insecticide residues and the loss of existing insecticides due to federal regulations.
The transition from chemical use to non-chemical approaches requires a thorough understanding of stored product insects and fungi, their identification, monitoring, biology and ecology and response to chemical and non-chemical management options. This presentation is a contribution for this strategy.
